practicals - metering modes & flash guns

Monday 4th February - metering modes & flash guns.

An afternoon practising using the different metering modes, with and without the use of a flash gun.

Over the last year or so I have been very focused and invested in using my 35mm film camera to shoot my uni projects on. Film, to me, gives photographs a look that digital just doesn't satisfy. With the amount of time I have devoted to creating film images I have neglected my digital camera and alongside that a lot of my knowledge of working one.

My tutor, one of my class mates and myself spent our Monday afternoon creating small photo shoots testing the metering modes on our cameras in response to our lighting situations. I myself am a Nikon owner, so the metering modes in my camera include Matrix Metering, Center-weighted Metering and Spot Metering. We took some indoor shots using just natural lighting and to get used to the different metering modes. We then introduced a flash gun to see if we could create more drama within the images. I have included images of the indoor and outdoor shots we came out with.

I intend to keep pushing my knowledge of digital shooting.
