F.M.P & Final Exhibition

Wednesday 8th May - FMP & Final Exhibition update

Since my last blog post about my FMP and exploring the area in which I live; Roundhay and the areas that surround it including Harehills, Oakwood, Gledhow, Gipton, Chapel Allerton, Chapeltown. Comparing and contrasting these different areas with a view to visually examining how and where different groups in our society live (class/ethnicity/demographics etc). I have expanded my idea to look at Roundhay Park, being the connected shared space that highlights common ground and yet the difference within a city of Britain and the people that live there. This intertwining location allows for each postcode to back on to each other, thus creating a broad sense of community.

I finished shooting for my FMP last week and in the lead up to our exhibition (16th May), I have decided to create a book and 7 A2 large prints of the images I have shot over the last few months for my Final Major Project.

The 6 of the 7 large prints consist of 4 individual images that have been well thought about in terms of placement and the final 7th print is one stand alone image. I created my book on Photobox and is made up of 50 pages in total, again with well thought out choosing of each image that went onto each page. Unfortunately, I didn't get the book sent off as early as i'd of hope for which means it may not arrive on time for the exhibition. However my tutors advised me that regardless of the book possibly not arriving on time it will still be marked with the rest of my work.

My initial ideas for this exhibition was to have the book as a physical piece of work that anyone who visits the gallery would be able to pick it up and look through, viewing more of the images I had shot. Along side that I planned to have around 20 individual prints of my strongest images mounted, but another unfortunate factor was not having enough spends to afford to print and then mount that many photos. I hope that even though my preferred ideas didn't go to plan, that how I will now present my work will still show off my skills and how hard I have worked in the last couple of months.
