Powerhouse - Assisting

Monday 15th April - Powerhouse Photography in Rodley

After speaking with Richard the first time I organised to go up to Powerhouse again this week to spend a day assisting. I was met by Kay Gould (operation manager) who I shadowed all day in assisting the rest of the members of staff at Powerhouse.

I arrived at 9 am and Kay showed me around again so I was familiar with where all the studios and equipment rooms were and then began with the day. I started off by helping her with painting what was supposed to look and have the texture of a concrete floor for an upcoming photo shoot, I then cleared out some props from a studio to go back downstairs into the prop room (which meant filling crates and going up and down two flights of stairs multiple times!). Before lunch I sat in on a fashion shoot and was there to offer any assistance if needed, however I just ended up observing.

At around 12 I went back upstairs to help Kay set up for lunch which is provided for clients and also members of staff (I believe these large lunch spreads happen daily) and often the shopping is done at Morrisons which is one of Powerhouse's main clients. Once everyone had eaten I helped Kay to clear away all the food and then we continued to paint the concrete flooring having left the first layer to dry for 4 hours.

Kay and Richard have both said that I can continue to keep coming in for assisting whenever I have free time, which I definitely intend to do.
